The buildings are each several stories high, and multiple levels can be used at any given time. Locations depicted by various set dressing changes include the Temple in Jerusalem, King Herod's palace, Pilate's balcony, a house, a marketplace, and more. Because the set stretches across much of the natural stage, various areas can be simultaneously depicting different locations.
Other primary locations used include the hills behind the set, the stage left side of the natural amphitheater (which is built up as Golgotha, the hill where the crucifixion takes place), a dock and flat area in front of the buildings (at the level of the first row of the audience), and the hills behind the audience. Each of these locations is used at various times.
