16 years prior, John Gabriel Borkman, a wealthy banker and industrialist is imprisoned for fraud and embezzlement. The Borkman family, disgraced by their patriarch, battle over the future of young Erhart Borkman.

John Gabriel is convinced that the scheme that sent him to prison, would have put him amongst the gods, with power, wealth & the ability to shape the world. His family, trapped within his legacy, struggle for redemption in the families’ youngest son, Erhart.

John Gabriel now lives upstairs estranged from his wife [Gunhild] until Ella [his wife’s twin sister and John Gabriel’s former lover] enters the house to try and wrestle control of Erhart from them.
